Getting a bit fed up with putting tolls into the boot or into the big van here and having to take them out again when finished. toyed about with buying a jeep to do the repair work and genral wark and keep car for good but two running costs would kill profit i would think to a degree. towing capacity would be what is taking me down jeep route but current car would have decent towing capacity, well better than most small vans it is a saab 93

have my own thoguhts but wanting to see what others think

used to be full time contracting and farming with filling the year out by doing farm repairs and fencing, bit of reroofing-basically if ur paying we did it.
times have changed, now working fulltime and trying to keep the rest of it going as a hobby, there is a demand but steady money from employment and then part time to build it the way i want to be while old man is still in charge of farm. yes me and the old man used to work together but had different ideas so after ten years i said fk it and got a job this summer, and working in evenings.

car is getting destroyed and has a habit of sticking of god only knows.

tools welder grinder spanner chop saw, drills etc plus materials many of times such as gussets and random bar and bush , boxes of screws etc.

used to use the trafic but now dad uses it and if u leave tools in it they wont be there for next time sometimes left where he was last working, so not a option. also have a tool box that we used in the back of the hilusx pickup which held most of tools and was safe, again normally both of us need pickup at same time so not an option.

would like something with towing capacity but safe for tools as sometimes need a trailer to use as a table, hope this clears it up a bit as to y there is three options or more if u sugest.

price not really thinking of that more as a what best suits and what people have experience of

gillet?

LWB 4x4 LC ,its my towing, work and social use truck ,Can put all my small hand tools in it and use the trailer for the big lumpy items

sort of my thinking with trailer on car but tools in the boot can be a pain. have a site box for holding most tool. was thinking of commerical jeep to start and take trailer when needed but it is a 13.5 x 6 flatbed but a little unhandy for tools only, good table though

If you told Dad to F off, who owns the traffic van.. ok so that's why you want your own. I'd go for a crew style van such as a VW transport with rear seats or a merc combi liner van... fit some good off-road tyres and even 2wd will go most places

Do you need/want 2 vehicles? Can you justify running a Jeep all the time?

well the saab is doing well to get near 40mpg, last check was about 36 with no trailer work. the 2002 hiliux is doing 30 with some trailer work. long journey would be 15 miles mostly. i would expect the difference in mpg cost to be covered by the running cost of only running one vehicle-tax and insurance would be 600 alone never mind mot for each, so 600 to cover the lost few mpg for personal use.

currently if i take the van or pick up i normally fuel it, out of decency.

cant see a crv thing here, normally drove to the death but not skimped on what is needed

sounds like you have similar use to myself although i don't tow that often. i have a transit crew van. factory fit bulkhead. 3 full size seats in back, even more room than a big car, good for keeping the front half clean for kids, even the mrs will get in it and drive it. And the back has enough room for tools and assorted crap.

was looking that way, origional plan was buy a 110 crewcab and use it for work and a bit of craic do a bit to it, but price is put that idea on hold and no real comfort for everyday driving. then thought commercial shogun style jeep and but tax and stuff then. last plan was buy a late trooper lwb. then after talking to a friend he suggested a wee van but no towing capacity. he knows where there might be a disco 4 worth the money but gearbox is starting to get a bit sticky but owner has no fear of it, again tax alone for it is 500 some odd for an overly complicated yoke for me.

another friend recons a freelander or vitara- 2 ton towing 4wd, sort of not all of anything but near enough of each, and use pick up for bigger loads of cattle or stuff, as quite a few bit vans dont take much over 2 ton.

crewcab van is still worth looking into. dont see any crewcab pickups that i like but that have been thought of too with site box for tools

just mostly pee'd of with shifting tools and sometimes not having what i thought was there, not doing much of it at the minute as people think i have stopped but hopefully gather up in spring again.
