Vegan and Vegetarian diets increase risk of a stroke.

Darwin called it Natural Selection.

You mean believing headlines in our media?

On balance a non meat / low fat diet is way healthier than a meat based diet, we have vegetarian meals several times a week in our household for that reason (my wife is a doctor and probably more qualified than most here). No amount of spurious headlines and pseudo facts will change the basic science.

You job as farmers is to produce the food your customers want not belittle their dietary choices. If you don't want to grow their food someone else will.

I think you’ll find a balanced diet is more healthy than purely a meat based or vegetable based diet

There are people who are far better qualified than your wife that will tell you that a non meat diet is a very unhealthy way to live, if you want to live a healthier lifestyle you will include red meat in your diet . Of course if you want to put artificially manufactured supplements into your body to make up for what you could get naturally from red meat that is your prerogative but please don’t come on here preaching your pseudo science.

On a slight tangent I bought a greggs vegan sausage roll last time I was in town, I'd heard that much about them from Piers Morgan that I just had to try one - gotta say it was very good.

Fair to say that some dietary recommendations made over the last 40 -50 years by the medical profession have been highly suspect and proven false at best, eggs, dairy, meat to list a few. Quite often the substitutes have been more dangerous.
Given the advise recommended, why do we have higher rates of heart disease, diabetes and obesity than 50 years ago??

Rates of heart disease are well down. Diabetes and obesity are linked and may lead to a gradual rise in circulatory deaths from heart and stroke again.

Well, that's another bloody farmer put in his place. :ROFLMAO: What do you think we've been doing for hundreds of years?

Rubbish.

The best diet is the one that suits your lifestyle. If you carry out loads of manual labour you could eat lard sandwiches with butter and dripping with spotted dick and cream for pudding every day with little chance of any ill effects.

If you sit in an office all day and watch tv all evening then a low fat diet would probably be best, but that all depends on your metabolism.

My friends dogs mothers owners cousin is a doctor and says so. She’s a crap doctor but probably could be better qualified than anybody you know.

Your last paragraph is correct though. Farmers will need to produce what consumers want. It will take a long time for consumers to change , just as it will take farmers a long time to adapt.

I don't see what all the fuss is about a vegetarian diet. Fruit, Veg and nuts etc should account for 60-70 odd% of our diets. We should all eat fresh tasty vegetable dishes just they need balancing with meat and dairy products to produce a healthy diet.
People make out that meat eaters eat nothing else but meat .

Agree with you insofar, but our lovable veggie/vegan lobby aren't interested in this balanced diet- they want everyone to give up meats of all kinds, no exceptions, and that's what the balanced diet agenda takes issue with.

I have no problem with personal dietary choices, but don't tell everyone else that they're wrong and should live like you do yourself, because that denies freedom of Choice, and, hey, none of us are perfect.

The trouble is we've had decades of recommended advice from expert scientists, much of which has now been or is being proven to be false. These were so called nutritional experts. Holding up a doctor as an example of someone whose knowledge cannot be questioned isn't really gonna fly is it? (No offence intended)

The sad thing is, we're now understanding that fat per se isn't actually bad for you in general, it's waaay more complicated than that. Some fats are actually beneficial and even essential to a degree. Carbs are the real danger together with sedentary lifestyles, Eating far too much of anything is gonna harm you eventually. And at the same time we're now seeing the whole vegan activist movement shouting from the rooftops that this outdated misconceived advice still holds water. One despairs at how confused the general public are becoming with all this. They're being pushed down the wrong road entirely but who can blame them when they're no experts and the experts of 30/40 years ago were wrong to start with?
