Personally, I thought it highlights the stupidity of trying to isolate part of an ecosystem rather than using the whole of nature's normal processes.

It reminds of this post in the rewilding thread;

After nearly 50 years the 'boom and bust' that naturally regulates the numbers of the large herbivores, is considered unacceptable.
How long will it take for it to be suggested that it would be more sustainable to reduce numbers by 5-10% a year rather than just allow 65% to die in one season.
Maybe it would be considered even more sustainable to use those culled for food, leather etc rather than be wasted and the revenue could then be used to pay for a manager making the system even more sustainable.
But then, of course, it's a farm.

Good old fashioned farming is about avoiding waste. Waste is what is destroying the planet.
