When you say last year do you mean last spring? Tray testing should really be done every year for every type of fert you use. Are you using the same type of fert as when you tested it? Even the same fert in different years/batches can spread differently. I've read somewhere before that if you can see striping your not just a few % out its a good 15-20% out! Assume the rate its putting it on is ok? Sounds like its just dropping it in completely the wrong point on the disc.

I had a case once where fancy new spreader striped the whole farm.
Turned out if I remember correctly there were 2 types of disc for left and right sides. The machine had 2 discs the same.
Don’t assume anything when fault finding!
This very weekend we were going to fit some new 18m vanes on our spreader which were ordered in the winter. I called importer to just check I needed different vanes for 12m. The helpful chap there even gave me the part number.
Went to look in box and sure enough our new 18m vanes are.... you guessed it, 12m . Big striping effect narrowly avoided.

By the sounds of it your spreading far too wide! As said, you really should test every product every year to be sure it won’t stripe. If you’ve not got a test kit get some trays from the garden centre and some tubes of eBay then it’s only a 10 minute job to check and you know it’s right.

It'll be a lot more sensitive to settings for different fert than krm .

I had issues last week with a blend that was doing as you say double either side of the tractor . Biggest issue was every size rest I took was different so just a stab in the dark with settings I just kept tray testing till I got close . That's with a kv so vicon in disguise

Well it's set up. What you doing wrong.
Gears in wrong way around? Pto in 1000 or release timing wrong? Top link short?
Pto is in 540 never checked gears assumed new machine you wouldn't have BUT the indicators were wired ass about face.As for top link height of machine adjusts as weight drops

Now Then..
Check that the cups above the spinning discs are oriented correctly, the opening should face the centre of the machine 'ish'
Also, Check that you have the correct vanes for your desired spread width and they are fitted correctly.
If you're spreading a high sulphur content product, you'll need to clean the vanes often as that affects the spread patern..
Because it's a weighing spreader, it shouldn't go down when in use.. Have you got the rear linkage set to draft (ploughing) or position??
If it's a new machine, where's your dealers man??

I’ve not done anything with them for over ten years, do they still come with the plastic box to determine the granular size? You could then set machine for prills or blend or granular size etc.

Had a look through my book of settings and 18m wants to have the PTO on the slow shaft on the spreader
