1.6 tdi 75 bhp caddy here with 65000 miles. Nine years old and only replaced one injector under warranty after Vw dpf emissions upgrade. Other than that only routine servicing. It lacks power but is fine for a motorised shopping trolley. If I changed it today I would go for more ponies under the bonnet. 50+ mpg so is cheap to run. Not great on ground clearance or off road capability.

Good as it was, unlikely to get one now with the old [300,000 miler] 1.9 PD engine. The later 1.9 B series engine is the choice now. Just make sure you get one with a full service history, quality oils changed regularly, are critical for long life.

What year are the old engines?

Plenty of the lower spec 1.9 put into commercial vehicles were not even PD. We bought a new Transporter 4 that was 1.9 turbo with standard injector pump. Bloody horrible gutless thing it was too.

had a 1.9pd in a touran, a big punch of torque which comes in in a lump. if you stall it which is easy to do the shock on the dual mass flywheel is a bit savage. i now have the 2.0lt common rail in a golf sv which is smoother. the turbo kicks in about 1400rpm and it can fairly pick up it's skirts and go.:)
the newer one is easier on fuel by 10mpg and so far (75000mls) is more reliable.
