Hi,
I am looking for permission from a land owner/custodian to fly my hawk at vermin quarry species for the forthcoming hawking season. I am fully BASC insured and can provide references. I am willing to pay for this privilege if required and I am willing to mentor/teach anyone who may have an interest.
I would also consider joining a syndicate or taking on ground that I could put game birds down on.
I live in Essex but would consider travelling to most adjoining counties.
If you think you can help in anyway at all please get in touch.... 07881504697
Many Thanks Mark

Hi guys,
The season starts sept/Oct and runs normally for 3/4 months, I know I've started looking early for next season but if I can find some good ground to fly on (quarry wise) I may order a goshawk, as this type of hawk requires a fair amount of game (rabbits etc).
As far as ground goes it doesn't have to be hundreds and hundreds of acres so long as there is quarry to fly at and it really varies on the type of land as well... I use my own ferrets to bolt rabbits when I can get someone to help or I use my German pointer to find game....
Thanks Mark

Sorry I forgot to add... As far as numbers go I would only take one head to start with if it was a new hawk and feed as much as possible off of it to give the hawk confidence then as the bird gets more experienced anything between one to three head per outing, this can all depend on the flight... By this I mean if it was an easy flight for the hawk I will continue, if it was its first slip but worked its socks off and I was only out 5 minutes I would call it a day... It's all to do with giving the bird confidence.... I could be out for a few hours or a few minutes it all depends on how the flights go....
Cheers Mark

Oh Billox, you need to hunt during the shooting season.
Would love to ask you here but we are part of a busy shoot and it may not go down too well with the keeper.

Hi Robigus,

thanks for the initial offer.... I think you could be 100% right there.... The keeper wouldnt be too happy.
Having said that.... Some do come round to the idea if they have an interest.... Just to summerise a good goshawk flown say two to three days a week on a shoot at pheasant/partridge would probably average in kills over a season what the shoot would lose to predators/road kills. Also some keeprs seem to think a hawk would drive his game away and in a way i can see his point, but if hunting with a Hawk is balanced out over a season and not over hawked i dont think it would have any impact.... This is whats done with shoot days, good ground keeps the birds.... Sorry to go on... Just looking at thing from a different perspective.
Cheers Mark

Hi Dry Rot,

Lol.... Ive been desperate to fly a Gos for a while but havent had the land with the abundance of quarry a Gos needs... Having said that the Harris Hawk i have is absolutely superb and she works really well with my dog.... A very commited hunter.

I'm sure HHs are delightful, just that the squeaking would irritate the hell out of me! I'm out of it now (too old), but here is my tiercel gos on a cock pheasant.
