Wanted - Labrador Puppy

Long time lurker first time poster,
Long shot but we are looking for a Labrador puppy.

After 17 years me and my partner find ourselves dogless our Lab of 15 years went last year and our collie of 13 went a couple of weeks ago, large garden with countryside walks on the door step. The new member of the family will usually join us at work renovating houses but when thats not possible we have excellant neighbours who love to play grandparent to our dog and close family who have young dogs as well, so it will certainly not be shut inside all day while we go out.

It seems to be a bad time to be looking for a new dog, watching the online ads, they are going almost instantly not giving any chance to do some background on the seller let alone go and view before commiting. I fear in 6-12 months there is going to be alot of unwanted dogs.
We are in the southwest, somerset/dorset but will travel.

Kind Regards

Matt

Maybe your doing it wrong, best advice if you want a good fully health tested pup is to find a KC Assured Breeder that is Council approved with a good star rating and get on there waiting lists. We've sold 4 litters in the last 8 weeks without advertising, the 4th litter isn't even born yet.
Its also difficult to do any background on the purchaser. Virtual viewings are not what we like doing, but at the moment its impossible to do anything else. We're currently having pups being collected today and even with the Defra protocols in place its been hard work so far keeping the new owners at 2m distance from us. There is also a lot of people out there at the moment that are really cashing in and hiking the prices to a ridiculous amount for pups with parents with minimal or no health testing. Its quite frustrating trying to do the job properly in the current market. we're still pricing at sensible levels for pups as we're in this for the long haul and would rather continue to build a good reputation than smash and grab the job.

9 of these off to new homes next weekend.

Thanks for the reply Andy, im an avid reader of today at work so know you are a man in the know. Yes you are quite right we should find a good breeder and go on a waiting list, the other half did speak to a couple earlier in the week and they had both closed all waiting lists indefinetly. We both lack patience and weren't expecting to lose the collie so soon and have really struggled without a dog so it became slightly more urgent. I naively thought it would be the same as when we got our lab all those years ago, look for some adverts go visit a couple farms, see them with the parents pick the winner! Where are you currently upto on your waiting lists?

We have a Chocolate lab litter just sold , next is a Yellow litter of working Labs, but the list is already quite long, but people do drop out whilst waiting. Happy to add you to it, they are due in 3 weeks if all goes to plan, but can't promise you'll get one. I'll pm the bosses contact details if you like, she's the one in control. ;)

I'll be first reserve on a choccy we had one and he was the most lovable dog ever but sadly died 2 days before his 7th birthday.my white lab at the moment is now 9 and starting to slow up and it would be lovely to have a companion for him but the wife insists on another choccy.
