Warburtons Contract

Is Hereward still grown and what problems does it have?
Poor yield and a tendency to drop Hagberg with any kind of moisture once ripe. Centaur just insisted that we send them a sample of home saved seed for electrophoresis varietal purity testing.

I used to grow it for Centaur then Openfield. A nice earner before Openfield insisted we buy certified seed from their newly acquired Honey Pot Lane seed plant. Warburtons used to come back to the negotiating table if the wheat markets went up to make sure growers still got a decent premium (before putting 75%+ Canadian number 1 red wheat in the grist).

Warburtons now have a complete disrespect for growers, and a jumped up opinion of themselves, something that they have probably learnt from Frontier.
I have successfully grown for them for many years and have had no recognition of that fact at all, no loyalty or thanks. Stuff em.
You would have thought when Frontier took over the contract that the first thing they would do is contact all the existing growers. Did they f**k.

I don't know why farmers deal with these big companies. It's not like there is no alternative.

Used to grow for Warburtons through Openfield, packed in when they went to Frontier.
Min £20, max £40 premium back then.

To be fair, if you sign a contract and agree to its terms you cant moan if the market changes. It does that all the time. BUT Warburtons went from a one year deal to a 3 yr one which makes a difference.
