Has anyone come across this before? We have a couple of heifers that have this all along there belly and on their teats. I have flied sprayed them, to reduce the change of spreading. Vets took a sample but to no prevail. Cheers in advance.

We have had a real problem for a few years now - even had to cull a couple of heifers as they were so bad. We had a vaccine made up which had some effect. There was a suggestion that it was related to thistles and flies. I have tried to introduce rotational grazing for the R2 heifers this time and also following the grazing block to tidy upresiduals when necessary in order to keep the heifers away from the fields they usually graze which we know tend to have a lot of flies due to streams and lots of trees.
I will be following with interest.

We've got a few, i blame thistles and wheat straw bedding. Anyway our normal way to tackle them is to roughly rip them off to try to stimulate an immune response. Works well sometimes, its a case of nothing to lose, one animal only shrugged them off at 3rd lactation.

I've had a few like that(probably get shouted down for this) but I keep them well smeared in tractor grease for 2 or 3 weeks, they seem to need air to survive and if you with hold that, they just shrivel up and die, after about 3 weeks they'll just rub off as the root seems to have died.

If it works and doesn't cause the hiefer too much pain it seems like a good idea to me

This works brilliant they go black and fall and doesn’t bother the heifers. Again maybe the grease theory and stops air getting to it.
