Water Leak

Certain this has come up before - is there any negotiation with Water companies on a leak that's caused a big bill ? No previous leak or claim and it was found and repaired, but not before £2000 of water had gone through the meter...

TIA all.

I always thought that our company (B'mth and W Hants Water) had an allowance on the first leak as long as you informed them and got it fixed. ) 50% sticks in my mind, but it is a while since I needed it.

As above there is usually a leak allowance, but it may only be for domestic properties, not commercial ones. I had a leak of about £800 worth a few years ago, and although Thames Water have a 50% leak allowance they wouldn't give it to me as a non-domestic customer.

Yes, they do. I've claimed it for underground farm leaks in the past. I had one last summer when a standpipe leaked £1500 worth of water out but I was told the allowance didn't cover above ground leaks.

Who is your supplier? Their website will tell you all you need to know. They have a Code Of Practice to adhere to as well, in case they become evasive.

And if you’re on mains sewer they charge you double

If you're on dual service where they assume you're using it all internally and putting it down the sewerage, yes. Most farms shouldn't be. There was a thread about a few farmers who switched supplier & found they were being charged double.

I asked 2 insurance companies when quoting, if a large hidden leak would be covered and both said yes.
Perhaps worth a try?
