Water supply

Hello, i'm not sure if this is the right section for this, we have 8 acres of land (no buildings) which has one water trough, and the water supply has stopped working, there are no signs of a leaking pipe on our land, i would like to know who or what do i need to do to get it fixed (I'm in Cornwall) I have no idea where the supply pipe comes from, is there a way of finding out where the pipe is laid ?

Thanks

1) do you know where the meter / stop tap is?
2) have you checked to see if the meter is going round?

If the answer to the above is "er no we didn't have a meter" and "it was fine until those folk from London moved into the big house" then I think the problem is solved.

Otherwise, walk from meter to trough using the magic rods, or get local with the gift in.

No meter and i'm not aware of any stop tap, my farther wasn't a very good communicator and now he's passed on, so cant ask him

Aaaaaaaah. So you have a magic trough then. I was in a similar situation - pipes etc put in 80 years ago by now dead folk. You may have to bite the bullet and get yourself a new connection.

Is the land close to a road ,residential ,through neighbor's land ,,if nobody knew it existed and didnt no it was there ,has it be chopped and not rejoined ,just blanked of ,,failing that somebody will gain a wet patch they didnt have before

There has been a large development in neighboring land, it is possible they have cut the pipe and not reconnected, but as i don't know where the pipe goes it's only a guess

With no meter and nothing in the paperwork, I'd just phone the water company and enquire about a new connection. Assuming the main is in the road it won't be too bad......if it isn't, well, get a chair ready when you get the quote as you'll need to sit down.

Ah ok, i was sort of hoping as it was connected it could be reconnected, but i suppose that was wishful thinking, our land is on the edge of town so water isn't to far away

I would have said need to find and check deeds first. There may be a clause giving them free water in it. Know of a cottage sold many years ago from a farm and it included the right to the farms private water supply forever free of charge

Might do. On the other hand, £1500 doesn't get you much legals, and if you're on a village edge etc it's not going to be a killer getting your own supply put in for the future.
