Galvanized steel is steel is supposed to have a long life some 50-70 years.. I guess the testers have either not tested it with livestock or the galvanizing mix is not up to standard when the trough is dipped.. I'm assuming of course that the trough is dipped post fabrication and not before ?

thats true look at galvanised corrugated sheets, we sheeted an old shed over 30 years ago an the sheets are still almost like new, without being an expert when you take galvanised water troughs i think some form of chemical reaction eats into the galvanised and you get a blister on the bottom that then rusts?

the blue plastic barrel water trough what animals is that for? not wishing to be rude but i cant see my sucler cows or bull using it for more than a day before it becomes their latest toy to knock around the yard?
That’s in cubicles with 30 B&W bullocks some with horns :cautious: and never moved. The key is the weight of the water, if you send a load of thirsty cattle at it and empty it, then the case might be different. That one used to be swung off the gate to the right of the picture with baler twine for several years, but we’ve been using the gate so got moved. I have several over the farm, some are more fixed in place than others. In fact I made this one this morning. Built and installed in under 45min including new T connection into a live pipe.
