We made a cracking hen house based on 2 pallets with marine ply and clad with roofing sheets to keep the weather off the wood... perches made from broom handles and creosoted the lot before the hens moved in. Can pick it up with the tractor too :D it’s 3 or 4 years old now and still looks great, hens love it.

Plastic pig ark or calf hutch makes a good hen house, easy to move & no timber for mites to dwell. Would need an appropriate door and floor made though, perhaps a perch too.

Mobile or fixed one ? One of our houses is a wooden garden storage shed with perches, a pophole, skids and wheels underneath and a couple of home made nest boxes stuck on each end, much cheaper and more substantial than those advertised on poultry websites.

I would never buy one with tongue and grove pannels again as red mite are impossible to irradicate once they get in to them. Same apparently for felt roofs

Roofing materials can be expensive but you can get large sheets of that protective plastic coating for windows from Wickes. It is like corrugated cardboard but plastic. It cost me £3 per sheet. It works really well to cover a piece of ply or T+G.

I did have red mites but after disinfecting and added lots and lots of that ericaceous earth stuff, it sorted it out.
