Had some spring barley drilled weaving gd . checked to start with seamed ok but seams a hell of a lot of seed onthe top now . I asked the contractors what’s happened and he said that it’s the drill it always does it. Is that true with all the other gd users or is it drilling speed related.

The air exaust on the coulter always lets a few grains out I've always thought they need partially blocking

need to run the D Cup style cyclonic air diffusers that let ALL the air out so the seed just drops down the tube, rather than being blown
all other air brakes or exhausts will always blow a few seeds out, especially light ones.
Still, should at least drop the air pressure back a bit, its not like your trying the push the seed any great distance through the hoses

partially blocking exhausts makes it worse - as youre increasing the back pressure & the speed of the air coming out, through a restricted opening . . .

There's always some on top, blown out the exhausts
Keeping a close eye on fan speed can reduce it a bit, but not a lot

roughly 250sq/m on top planted 450 you just made it worse but good to work it out I guess. Weaving drill or contractor ???
That's bad.
Shouldn't have that much unless the seed was poor and kept blocking the exhaust so blowing it out. (I've had some difficult barley with awns on it still, impossible to stop it blocking, just had to keep getting out and checking)
I'd say fan speed far too high.

Haven't had the problem here. But I drive max. 9 km/h.

Drilling spring barley into old ryegrass crop. No seeds on top, but speed at 8 km/h. Maybe that's the reason.

I'd say that was excessive speed, though the air brakes do leak the odd one. I had an 8m demo travelling at 7 kph due to the very high seed rate. Not one seed on top except where pulling out on the headlands.
