I imagine it was on top of slot
I’d say that the seed was pretty near the bottom of the slot. But as there is obviously some light getting down the slit, the plant is immediately able to photosynthesise and the leaves turn green before the actually break the surface.
Amazing that after all that hot dry weather, there was still enough moisture for it to germinate.

Looked in the field beside it that I had combi drilled straight into the surface the following day (last Wednesday). Yes the seed has shot, but nothing green yet.

Are there any recommendations on how to reduce a Caddy GD from pulling out of line? I had it a bit previously on side slopes, but started drilling beans deeper today and it was pulling a long way off to the side at times, while there is very little, if any, side slope.

I'm guessing it might just be too higher proportion of the weight on the discs than on the coulter or transport wheels?

I think you have the same drill as us? 3m gd toolbar on the back of a trailed caddy? We’ve had similar issues and think/hope it’s to do with surface tightness on soils only recently put under no till management. Ours will pull straight on reasonably steep land and then move a lot on lightly undulating fields - I think its down to soil condition, dry/hard surface coupled with increased drilling depth. Going to try and help that with a LD lifter until soil improves.
Failing that - the second theory is to do with the number of discs facing each way on a 3m. We have 5L 4R on the front and 4L 5R on the back. Even with the drill set up level this may make a difference compared to a mounted that is held straight by the tractor? I’m assuming that a 4, 4.8, 6, 8m all have the same number of discs facing each way on front and back of the toolbar.
Dropping tyre pressure on the caddy wheels to 1 bar and keeping them half on the ground has helped. Reducing the oil in the hydraulic system may have also helped put the discs back on the toolbar - if that makes sense?
Would be grateful to hear if you find anything that helps!

Another thought if the disc arrangement is the cause is to rearrange the coulters. Either losing two and spacing them out or maybe put 4L 4R on the front and 5L 5R on the back. But that’s easier said than done around the frame.

Is the liquid fert from Weaving? Front mounted tank? And can you remember how much it cost? Thanks
I made the liquid kit my self with help of Trevor Tapin https://www.ttapplicators.co.uk/
Yes I use a 1000lt techneat front tank I can’t decide weather to go for a grain and fert drill or stick with liquid it’s set so at 9kph 2bar is 100lt/ha
Think it cost me £1500 in bits not including the tank

Do you apply a mixed product or straight N? Is there any seed burn? I am considering fitting a liquid system to my 4801T.
In relation to the drill tracking off, we had the same happen on ours when weight came off the back wheels trying to get penetration. The dealer here came up with a change in the hydraulic system to allow the back wheel hydraulic ram pressure to be easily altered so that the Rams now actively work maintaining the constant pressure of the back main wheels on the ground. This effectively means when going over rises and dips that the drill now contours beautifully.

I use either 18-27-0 or just straight 28n never had any problems with seed burn the good thing about liquid is I have a clean water tank fitted so can flush it through at the end of the day
