How deep are people running the tines to get a nice seed covering of spring wheat? The ground was wheat stubble with cover crop planted direct with sabre tine then grazed off leaving just dead mustard stalks attached to the ground. I’m thinking that a bit more surface disturbance might be better and I can get away with drilling slightly wetter than the gd which I’ve used in the past few years

the issue i have is slotting, if i run the tines as deep as i need it blows it to the bottom of the slot in spring and then buries it never to be seen again.

If the soil is a bit lighter and doesn't slot i would go a bit deeper to get the tilth

We bought the kit off of Weaving’s to put a stocks wizard seeder unit on the drill. It was a few year ago now but wasn’t too badly priced.

I’ll take a picture in the morning

I fitted a Stocks rotor meter to the venturi of a 750A. It needed to be the fan assisted model as there wasn't enough height to get a good gravity feed. The one fitted to the ST is the gravity feed model (which is cheaper) as there is sufficient height to achieve this.

Bracket that stocks is sat on came from Weaving’s that bolted straight in to existing framework. also came with the frame work to bolt on to the harrows for spreader plates.

Has anyone tried either of these two legs/tubes from APM? I like the hard facing on the side of one, and the bolt-on side wall on the other. For me, these are appealing due to the wear level I get in my stone. I haven’t used either of them, and am just considering it.

Just wondering if anyone is running them?

We have been trialing a replaceable tip option. Better wear all around x 4, side protection, leg lasts 3 to 4 replaceable tips, Less slotting, more tilth but still very low disturbance.

What BTT have is that with our nose being further out in front of the tine the soil breaks out better creating less smearing / slotting. All our products have been designed for the North American market and with the very short growing season, farmers are often keen to get seeding as early as possible and often when conditions are not ideal, and it is this design that seems to work the best. Obviously not all soil types, conditions and situations are the same and perhaps my statement of, 'With this design of tip you do not get the slotting' should have been, 'With this design you can reduce slotting when conditions allow'.

Would love to discuss this further with you if you are coming to Cereal or Groundswell.

Do you have machines with this tine in the U.K.? Running alongside standard tines? Any photos/videos of the results

Running in light but abrasive soils here with plenty of stone so would be interested to see the results

Edit. The concern for me would be this shape of foot would do exactly what a claydon did on demo and disturb and raise stones leaving all the stones on the surface

Here are some pictures of a trial on some Essex Clay Near Stansted. Both tines were put on new and this is the result after 850 acres of Autumn and Early Spring Drilling. The picture of the two BTT tips shows the trial tip (19mm - 0802) V a new tip. Plenty of life left in the trial tip. We also offer a narrower 13mm - 0511 TIP.
No difference in the growing field to date but further field walking will take place.

I’d be interested in trying these. I’m a big fan of the Sabre.
My flints got through a set of standard tines in a season (I was quite impressed they lasted that long on my soil), and I tried a set supplied by APM. Pictures below.

The APM ones have a hard faced side-channel, and an integrated seed tube. They’ve done a season and still have 50% left to go, so twice as good as standard tines.

I like the look of the BTT ones though. Any chance of trying one before buying a £6k set?
