Weed wiper pump controller

Hi folks.

Well I opened up the controller for the pump which is basically just a fused om/off switch with a red LED warning light .
There is a resistor between the switch and the LED. Can anyone tell me the purpose of it ?

As soon as I gripped the retaining nut on the fuse holder it just crumbled, so I am renewing the, switch, fuse holder and the LED.

It may be a current limiting resistor depending on the LED they've used.
