Weight limits on lanes

There is a 7.5 ton limit near to our farm and we us it to get at land that we contact farm the other end. There is a route that will take you via a main road but its a switch back turn which you would never get round with a trailer. There also has been several fatality on this junction so we don't use it as it's blind. We have had complaints about using the cut through with tractors and trailer but also the selfproppled sprayer.
My elderly grandmother who lives in the farm house had a call from a police officer to say that there was a complaint and I quote "the person filing the complaint is very pi#%ed off". The police office did not offer any advice on the situation and my grandmother didn't take there name or contact. This sounds odd to me.
Please can some one shed some light on the word off the law as the local NFU office could not. Many thanks.

Is the entrance to land you are accessing within the weight limit section of road? If so then you have access rights regardless of weight. If on the other hand you are going into then out of a weight limit section of road to get to your other land you are technically breaking the law.

That's why we can't really use the alternative as it would endanger my staff and also the public. Can road safety become a HSE problem

Yes closest bit of land falls 50m out side the limit. We do have land in side the limit which I know I'm well with in my rights to access but 30% of the farm is the wrong side of the limit

Can you not get from the land you farm within the limit to the land outside the limit, without going on the road? Perhaps by agreement with a neighbour for example?

Would it be worth inviting the local PCSO along for a ride so they can see how dangerous it would be to use the main road and the bad junction

I know the neighbour very well but unfortunately it may not work with out making a new access point on the main road
