New to me but old mig welder not running properly basically seems to be heating the wire up before it gets out of the torch and the wire speed seems really rough and intermittent .I seem to remember having this problem with another welder we changed the torch and liner .Am I on the right lines ? Thanks

My take on it would be to replace liner and replace tip first of all. Is the tip the right size for the wire aswell and are the feed rollers clean, wire new and clean and feed rollers matching wire size?

If you haven’t got a new liner to hand then remove torch and blow through it with air line will improve things and indicate if you’re on the right track

As others check the torch borrow a working torch to try first if its still intermittent feed then check the feed roller grooves are the right size, clean with square grooves (not oval aluminium) and tensioned properly. To test tension check you can just stop the wire as it slips between finger and thumb at the tip, wear a glove! There is also a brake in the centre of the wire spool check it's not too tight

Top left is burn back and top right is wire speed? Centre switch is trigger setting, on that setting you hold the trigger to feed the wire, on the other is click to start, click to stop, used for long runs!!

Looks like your power is flat out on 12, bring it down to half way and play about with wire speed to get the nice crackling sound effect

Forgot to mention, if the wire reel is not new and has any form of rust spots on it chuck it in scrap bin straight away!!! They will not weld tidily or even and will spit and spat and spark and make a right mess!!

Had this on my Lincoln a few years ago, wire wouldn’t feed, kept stalling etc. Was just the wire was dull and oxidised. Pulled through about 30ft of wire and it was back to its usual self
