Welding boss onto ram

Any tips welding a boss onto the end of a ram? It's 35.5mm hole boss 90 degree onto 50mm rod. And same on tube end. Chrome will be fine as long as it is covered from any hot bits spitting??

Unless anyone can find me a ram like that with 35.5mm pin holes either end? Can find loads of 30.5mm ones so was planning on buying a new one and cutting ends off for a sheargrab.... not ideal but £125 instead of £547 For the genuine manufacturer ones!!

For only 5mm I would be tempted to either drill them out if enough metal there or source some new pins to suit ram and machine 4 reducing bushes for the shear grab? As long as they’re a good fit and the pin is the proper grade it should be ok. Mild steel pins will bend and open the jaws out on a shear grab in minutes though, you will need a stronger pin

I'll struggle to drill out something 35mm and 100mm deep, was trying to avoid smaller pins as last grab bent the pins and they were the original ones . Fpe seals will sell a cylinder kit which is all correct looking online but I'll have to build it from scratch and weld the bosses on myself but at least it will all be new and no trying to cut stuff off old rams

As above either find someone with a lathe to make the size bush you want and then weld it on or find someone with a Bridgeport mill and bore the 30mm bushes out to 35 - if there is enough meat.
I could do either, don't suppose you are anywhere near me - put your location up.
