Welger rp 12s

I'm new on here, apologies if this has been covered.
Welger rp 12s baler. Any good? It for baling 30 acres. I know there are lots of different machines, options, better machines out there but it fits my budget and I think what I'm doing. Probably doing 100 acres next year. What specifically should I look for that could fail. Bearings I'm guessing as all the pressure from the rollers force on them. Can I put a wider pickup on it at a later date? Thank you.

Our contractor run a RP12S for many years, seemed to work ok, never remember any major issues.

There will be better these days, but back then we did not know better! Just imagine, making bales, that your tractor carries for you, and you can make silage if you want too!!

The wally in me wants a RP12S just for the fun of it, but the hard up, level headed, part of me tells the wally part to keep silly thoughts like that to himself!

Hi, I know there are probably better ones out there but it's what's available and with in bedget. Ideally a nice new claas or new holland, if only I played the lottery!

Are they really that bad? Slow? Netwrap? Bearings aren't an issue to change out. 100 acres would be next year. I need some thing this year to do has as my dad can't lift small squares due to Parkinsons and thought that would be a good compromise. What about a krone 130. Or nh654? Big machine the nh though.

A crop cutter or rotor feed is essential on a baler imo, will save you hours of trouble.
I've spent enough time underneath these old pieces of sh!t pulling the grass back out one leaf at a time

All Welger here in this area for many many years ...................

They dont seem to like fresh straw, get the one with the knurled rollers (that's probably covered as its an S version) and stay away from the later twin tie ones.

Best get a wide pickup if you need it, check the bearings everywhere and dont go doing (baling) it all the one day, especially the first day ...............

My plan is.... bale my 30 acres this year, then is it worth stripping out all bearings and replacing with new? All with grease nipples.
The new holland is a fair size machine. I want to park under cover and that's a bit bloody big for our shelter! Also, simplicity. Old electrics aren't the best thing! Is the krone baler any good if the welger is a problematic bugger! As you can imagine I like the deutz(vico) baler but finding one with net is difficult. Again, they morphed into welger didn't they?? Thanks for all your inputs!

We've had a Welger RP12 for nearly 30 years & have had to replace only two bearings in that time , great for hay & silage . Does struggle in winter barley straw but ok in spring barley . If you get one don't power wash it off as this buggers up the bearings . The biggest expense we found was the long chain when it was time to replace it . If you can , try & get one with a bale kicker on , saves lots of gear changing when tipping .

Know nothing about Deutz balers. As the Deutz importer here took in the Welger, (IAM Machinery) and boy do they know what to charge. Plenty broke if you need links for secondhand parts and the bearings can be got anywhere, just replace the ones that have lift, keep a few spare ...............
Seem to remember the drive gears are held on by two eccentric circles tightened onto the shaft, so study form before trying to pull them off ................

Good luck with it .............

Also consider Claas, we like them .............

Straw with the sun on it was a problem as the rollers would not grip enough to start forming the bale .Very short grass wrapped around the rollers too_Otherwise a good machine we had to weave from side to side to get a perfect shaped bale when following a 307 mower but maybe ok behind a rake .On the nylon pulleys that sets the tying speed we found if you went twice around it with the twine it tied better as above a bale kicker would be a godsend save having to reverse before ejecting the bale :)

What's the budget?
Are you baling hay, straw, silage or all 3?
I'd want something newer if it was me, could easily spend the price of an old baler on parts. What about an RP200 if you want Welger, Class 46 were popular around here at a time or a Vicon/Deutz 125 or 130?
