got a 8 tonne west grain trailer with the floor gone, what plate would you use, thinking of getting it folded and drop it in and weld her up , a new eye has been ordered and maybe a coat of paint if im feeling generous !!

I replaced the front half of the floor in the 8te Griffiths with normal 4mm plate. It’s now rusting and coming off in thin layers, even though the original back section isn’t. I can’t think of any particular reason for this and am just waiting for it to go through again

I think modern steel isn't as good as the old stuff. I'd use 5mm plate, and it will last a good while before rotting through.

Is it kept outside?

Maybe a coat of paint!!!???
If the floor has gone probably the cross members are not too good either
I would say 5mm would be best thickness

Yes, and used for cow muck, but the point is that there is a difference in the corrosion behaviours
Its a common thing for muck trailers that are kept outside to rot at the front as they tend to be parked 'nose down' and water pools at the front.

That said, there is steel and steel, some probably rust at different rates due to the makeup of it.
