What’s everyone footbathing with?

We’ve expanded numbers a lot of the past 18months and DD has become a lot more prevalent than I’m happy with.

biggest issue I think is that we’re walking probably twice the cows through the same foot bath so by the end is probably doing sod all at best.

we’re going to try changing our routine a bit so we just let 5 sides through the bath per milking With a gate change which should help I hope but is there a better product than formalin?
I’m sure I’ve seen a copper and formalin mix that’s meant to be able to stay active for more feet?

Be hard pushed to beat formalin although a vet told me today that its activity is significantly lessened if the water temperature is 5 degrees or less

Much less DD here now using formalin through an auto bath with water/chemical changed every 170 cows

Formalin 3 x a week, change foot bath half way through milking. Copper sulphate 3 x a week.

250 cows through a standard single plastic bath. It’s better when they’re out to grass but they’ve been painfully slow when they’ve been housed for leaving the parlour

We use formalin daily in the auto bath but will add in copper too if DD flares up a bit. Copper is the best at clearing it up in my opinion.

been using 10 litres which i think is 4%

Went back out yesterday. Been housed for about 20 odd days due to horrid weather. Will be housed at night for a while yet though I’d of thought.

We have 160 cows, put 2 footbaths in the exit race and bath with 3% formalin, twice a week.

We had bad problems 2 years ago due to some building works which stopped us foootbathing for a couple of months and the only way I got on top of it was by lifting all the bad cows and cleaning, trimming, and spraying their feet. Luckily it was spring and they went out and they then got better.

I do the foot bath entirely wrong according to common wisdom. 500 cows through 80 gallons with copper sulfate. It does seem to work at preventing it. Had quite a few cases in the past but hardly get any now.

Not something I would recommend doing but shows that using what you have may work despite being considered wrong.

Where is everyone buying their formalin from we’ve not bought and Ibc for a long time due to not having somewhere to put it handy but can sort that now.

We get our formailin from adam @Adam@Rumen

Formalin with varying frequency depending on need.

Just had an ibc of it in and Rumen Supplies was the most competitive.

It is the ambient temperature that matters, if it is not warm enough it won't eveperate and therefore won't do anything

Formalin 5%, 5 days a week. No DD to speak of although we have had it in the past. If we stop though, foul comes in with a vengeance after about 10 days.

Formalin once every 10 days and nothing else,it works here

ffs pissing it down now. So now they’re stood under the hedge making a mess because my allocation isn’t big enough now.
