What’s the difference between “Regenarative Farming” and traditional “Mixed Farming”?

TBH we in the process of getting a much bigger tractor thinking forwards to a less intensive till future. Mainly because I don’t think the current biggest tractor will be boss of a 4m wide Min till drill of the type I been looking at.

And as a result for some work we do we had to buy a much bigger plough to match it as the current one I think it would not only pull in half but the wider tyres and plough bodies weren’t compatible for running in furrow.
Unfortunately that’s what puts peoples back’s up when the regenerative agriculture conversation comes up. It’s the 300 hp tractor and fancy drill needed to save the world that annoys people. They are good but there’s other ways too.

Of course i am wrong!! You are right... but if you live in the UK you should consider emigrating if you think yield is still king.. Yield is now the Prince until the next time we cant import what we need
Don’t worry I have a pretty good idea what does and doesn’t work on my land. Certainly better than anyone who has never actually farmed it. However there are many folks locally doing things different to me in many ways shapes and forms. I consider it my duty to look over the hedge and cherry pick there better ideas and adapt them to fit my system.

Everything I’m buying/intending to buy are to fit with how I want to do things, shiny paint egos and the toys to better the neighbours ain’t how I do things here.

Most kit on this farm arrives very second hand but I have other obligations that require the farming kit to be a bit bigger than if I just had my own postage stamp to farm.

Min till drill or direct?

I have 105 hp on my 4m dd
I’m going for 240hp, to pull 4m, we need something that can lift heavy mounted drill if we go that route and also pull something that does move some soil if needs be. Yes it may end up been OTT but then it can be throttled back for an easy life. It’s far from new so would rather a big machine working easy than a small one working hard.

we have livestock as well so the power be handy for some jobs on that side of things as well.

It’s not personal but a lot of the regenerative stuff is driven by folk who like to be pictured in the farming press with their fancy drill and tractor. To me it’s annoying but it shouldn’t take away from the fact that looking at things differently isn’t a bad thing.

We’re a long way away from that sorta thing and regardless it isn’t my scene.

one man band here looking to get things done quickly, efficiently and at a sensible cost that doesn’t involve payments.

If you rely on looking over hedges for your knowledge then it will be many decades before you understand what you are looking at?
