We have a ewe that 3 years ago delivered quins on the 1st of April, unassisted, all uniform, all survived. 2 years ago the same ewe had quads, also on the 1st April, so we kept the ewe lamb from the litter. This year, today, again April the 1st, that yearling has just dropped 4 small but perfectly healthy lambs all on her own. I am beginning to think this line of females sees this day as some kind of excuse to have a joke at my expense.
The older ewe is now retired and playing nursemaid to the ewe lambs after having had 19 lambs over 5 seasons and finally losing a quarter to mastitis.
