Looked at it a few times for our biomass boiler but can’t really make it viable against cereal straw. The establishment costs are around £2000/ha if being realistic with failures etc. budget on 8-9t/ha yield (that’s come from other growers).
From our point of view because the calorific value is so much higher than cereal straw it would mean less bales handled, less straw storage space, less times filling the straw table up etc but it’s a big long term commitment.
