Was checking the engine oil on the JD artic telehandler and noticed a slightly damp hydraulic pipe on the tranny filter.
I peered into the abyss, under the cab, where the pipe was connected to the torque converter.
Sliding out the floor mounted tool tray, revealed a potential access.
If you've ever been up to your armpit, calving a cow, this is way worse.
Hindsight and maybe for the future access to the spaghetti under the cab, removing the seat a cutting the floor out could be an option

I tried to mow a monitoring well last year with my lely mower, broke the hex shaft. Figured I might as well replace all the bearings for the horizontal axis. Opened up the drive element and found some iron fragments, crownwheel buggered. Might just be a write off.

If its just the one it might be OK. The crown wheel and pinion for my rake was £670 I think for a non genuine one from granit or something spelled like that. The rake isn't worth much more than double that so if I was paying someone to do it I'd just not bother probably. But I'd still need a rake so thought may as well spend the money on the part and fix it myself than spend a lot more to buy another rake of unknown history and maybe have another one break down. Hope that makes sense

Thanks, it has had the day in front of the workshop doors and a few bodges / repairs.
Workshop door is only 3.3m wide, drill is 4m.
Cover crop should have been in a week ago. :(

I had barley cut last week and thought about drilling the cover crop with a Vredo seeder, similar idea but with double discs. In the end I decided against it as the ground had a good bit of tracks in it (not that deep but still) and I wan't to pester the greens that where already there as it is organic ground. So I had it done with the powerharrow, made a nice job.

I forgot to say I got my loader tractor working and have finally carried all my bales with it this week finished today.
After I sorted the brake a water pipe started leaking and a gasket on a little plate on the side of the block started leaking as well 🤦‍♂️ the bolts holding it also held a bracket for the brake pipes and I took it off the split the tractor  lucky I had an old but new in pack gasket for something else I could cut up to put it it back together.
Then today the power steering hoses started leaking 🤦‍♂️only needed tightening up again though odd they've done a weeks work as they were.
Tractor drives much nicer now everything is smoother on it.

Until this year its been very good. Had one clutch before in about 2006 and the 4wd dropbox was replaced in about 2000 as it kept breaking and was drilled or cast a bit off and wasn't straight where the shaft came out. It was swapped for another box off a tractor from a breaker and been fine since. Apart from that it's had not a lot done at all to it until this year. I don't think it's had any spanners on it to even replace a battery in 10 years. Not bad for a 1994 built tractor with over 12000 hours.

All new bearings in the elements. They are special c4 bearings so a fair bit more expensive.
95 grams of ep0 grease as per lely prescription.

The most expensive part, €310 for the set.
I managed to find a cheaper source for the hexagonal driveshaft, will be here this week I hope.

This makes it a bit easier.

€310 doesn't sound too bad. Bet it all mounted up to a lot with the bearings and everything though. But I'd still prefer to do that and have something reasonable that I know the history of that buy something questionable second hand that could break down again like my rake did :cautious:
Worth it if your handy with spanners yourself but I wouldn't like to be paying my own labour bill it would probably not be worth paying for any of it if I had to pay labour and I'd scrap the whole thing.

The year of breakdowns continues.....
Massey 5460 wouldn't start in the middle of the field with a Bale trailer on. Battery was 9 years old and wasn't holding charge properly so got a new one. Still wouldn't start. Charged new battery and it just about did it. Drove it home for further inspection and its got a sump half full of water 🤦‍♂️
Getting braver with what I'll try myself now after doing the clutch and a million other things on that tractor so I've stripped it all down on Friday afternoon ready to take the head off. Will take it off tomorrow when it's hopefully raining so heavy I won't want to be outside. Hopefully it's just the gasket 😬

Yeah it soon mounts up but you can't buy a mower for it.
€310 crown/pignon
€135 hexagonal driveshaft
€90 6005/2RS C4 bearings (7,50 a piece)
€3 ish seal for the drive element
€25 ish nilos rings
And I suppose €10 for the grease and oil and another €10 for some bolts and nuts.
A pair of 6009 bearings on the standing up part where the hat with the blades mounts to was shot but I have some crap lying around with good bearings.

So just under €600.

You'd have to stick a 0 at the end to get a new mower at least.
There are plenty of people who would get a new one instead though they must have more money than me.
