What did you save up for but never buy.

Do you remember been young & wanting to buy something, but by the time you had saved the money you had changed your mind.

In my case it was in my teens, about 16, I really wanted some Tricker boots but by the time I'd saved £150, I was no longer bothered.

Then at 21 we were on David Browns & they were very hot in summer so I saved up for a Deutz with an opening wind screen. By the time I was 25 I had other priorities.

Well that was a mistake.
The only tractor on the farm that is actually going up in value.

Someone once told me if you see a 205 being driven quickly it was either an exceptionally talented driver or it was someone about to end up going through a hedge backwards. Lift-off oversteer I think was the problem if I remember correctly. The suspension would compress to one side then pop back up and throw the car the other way.

Splitting in half at the sill behind the door always put me off

Had an 850 mini with all the trimmings, BRG with gold bonnet and roof, cosmic wheels, big fu(k off exhaust.
Hoping to trade in for Cooper S, saved up enough to order, but by then Cooper S had been replaced by 1275GT so ordered one of those.
For some reason 1275GT didn't arrive on time, my 850 tax expired, explained to garage that it wasn't my fault new car was delayed, did they want to tax it.
They decided against it, and offered a 1300GT as a courtesy car. First night out (p1ssing down) with 1300GT pulled out to overtake a lorry on a long straight road.
As I approached he pulled out to overtake another lorry, hit the brakes - straight up his arse end (he didn't stop). By the time I'd paid for damage, Couldn't afford the new car:(

T'was great fun on roundabouts and not too difficult to control either. I'm not a particularly talented driver, I don't think, but never put mine in a hedge front or backwards. Only car I've ever managed to hit rev limiter in top gear too - 122mph, iirc.

Still regret selling it, but was costing me two tanks of fuel a week latterly. I sat in one not so long ago and was amazed at how small and tinny it looked. Some things are best remembered but not repeated. If I'm honest my diesel volvo is faster point to point too.

Saved to buy my first car, ended up passing my test just when I was leaving home for college so didn't need the car whilst I was living in town. Don't know what I ended up spending the money on, probably more wisely invested in various pubs in Edinburgh...

Had a 1.6gti. Cherry red.

Always wanted a 1.9 until I saw a mates after it went thru a hedge at speed sideways.

The 1.6 ate its engine and I replaced it with the GRD model. Diesel.

That is as near as fast as the 1.6 but was so front heavy it was a pig to drive.

That got swapped for a 309 GTI. Loved that car.
