just weaning a group today , 196% in the spring char flock prob one of best weaning % we had for some time , with that number though there is a handful of carp lambs 20-25 kg ish and skinny ,where a few ewes had mastitis and couple trips etc , what do most people do with them , keep them inside and creep get them gone at some point or turn them away with others and provide some fox / badger food , as bound to find them dead under a hedge in few months , just wonder what the bigger flocks do !

Run them with the ewes for 12 months and sell them in the culls, I've often wondered if I should just get them straight into the stores before the rest and save the best 'til last.

It’s not a case of trying to be clever but early intervention is the key we lift anything that’s not 17kg at 9 weeks onto ad lib pellets but by the time you get to weaning the change in those lambs is massive
yea your prob right , we try and run pure sheep as extensively as possible to sort the genetics out , to be fair they didnt look to bad 6 weeks ago ,(rest are pretty good @ 40-60kg with some cover ) little -uns soon get a hiding when prot/energy drops out the grazing in july .

A jab of 2% cydectin can do those types some good. Then hope they make it until spring.

Hoggs still a good trade right till June nowadays
I drenched with cydectin today on vet advice (never used it before ) , we had a resistant worm issue last autumn on one farm with ivermectin didnt want to go through that again this year when autumn rains start .

Got decent grass that you could put them on? Dose of zolvix and a mineral drench (a dip if possible) and plenty fresh bite and it might surprise what they’d do in a month. 20kg isn’t runt territory in my book
yea moved others on fresh aftermath , problem is public , landlord lets out his pool to public (kids) and he has one of those dog walking enterprises across track ,

A different philosophy here. Get them off by tupping, out of the way. Let someone else faff with them. £20 to you, or give the money to the knacker.
Actually prices are very good just now, so you'd get much more.
I don't like keeping runts and poor doers in the hope that by some divine intervention they might turn into good fat lambs. I recon something is wrong with them, regardless of the reason, and they're probably shitting worm eggs, cocci, and god knows what else out everywhere 24/7. Get rid for the sake of the rest of the flock.

A farmer from NZ said they put them in the swede field early at 3 an acre , didn’t affect swede growth and lambs grow on. What has worked here is to shear them September and it’s surprising how they've grown by Spring.
