I know they say that security is only as strong as the weakest link. So which is the hardest security chain that is bolt cropper proof and TOUGH for a battery powered cutting disc to cut through. We the move on to the lock that secures the security chain ,the weakest link ????

whats the point if you have to go that far the best you can do is a dettirant ,what ever it is keep it out of sight and behind locked doors if they have cutting discs whats going to to stop them , may i advise a bloody big dog we used to have a BIG DOG and that stopped all the unwanted visitors including the police when they see a dog the size of a pony looking through the window they dont come back

The steel chains usually sold for motor bike security that have a square or hexagonal profile are pretty tough to do with croppers as the hardening on the corners make it difficult for the croppers to get a purchase. Grinders and gas can get through most things. The important thing to remember though is that if the chain / lock is too difficult then they may find a weaker spot that's more disruptive and harder to repair e.g. ripping the cladding off!

Be better in another section I think. There's too much stuff in here that's not really relevant to the title ie "workshop projects" so you won't get the replies the thread you created deserves.

I used to have a motor bike lock that had a stainless steel cable with stainless steel rollers on the outside so a disc cutter would just spin the rollers and being stainless a burner won’t cut it either it had a pick proof lock as well

I would use alarms and sensor lights if possible. We have done this and it works as people don’t tend to stick around with very loud alarm sirens going off and all the yard lights on. We chainthe yard gates but it’s only really to stop people just driving into the yard willy nilly out of work hours. You just have to unset and set the alarm every day. The chore is locking and unlocking the gates every day.

If you are away from the farm some cheaper systems will text you when the alarm goes off , for a few hundred quid you can get a trail cam that texts you an image when it gets triggered .

a place id buy tools from had that happen, up onto the roof screwed off a sheet , dropped a rope ladder in and cleaned the place.

youd want to be working out of a prison to keep stuff safe.

Instead of a chain, a barrel lock under 10mm plate or in a box so cutters don't work and battery grinder would run its battery out before getting to it. Problem then is strength of gates.

Nothing is impregnable , you only buy time with security , reasonable chains and locks backed up by an alarm is better than anything other than armed guards :)
