What is this plough and what age?

Seen at Woody's ploughing match yesterday, the manufacturer of this plough is patently obvious. Can anybody date it. I thought I was fairly accurate but was 8 years adrift!

While we're on, occasionally a picture of t'odd Massey (t'odd obviously said in the nicest possible way and meaning sparse rather than strange) encounters my lens (as well as mi pen). Here's one of him taking me taking him taking me! An' all just after me taking him taking notes, probably to put on here in that little red book of his.

dam i thought were on about @massey765 :joyful::joyful::joyful:

would the plough be about 63 and before the yellow ones got imported large scale ?

That would have been a different epoch altogether, predates me by a good few years so late 40's

Now meanwhile back to the plough. Apparently it was sold into Cumbria on Derek Tysons family farm when he was 5 in 1968. It was the first Kverneland in that area and as you so rightly say, predates the yellow Bamford ones. The back leg is original and genuine and was fitted for demonstration purposes, and ease of tipping it up out of work when the going got tough.

Not really fair on the rest of the country apart from the Northern counties, but what date is this one, what variant is it and more to the point what class can it plough in legally?

This was the very first Kvernland Hydrein plough in Cumbria. It was Hillary's of Aspatria's demonstrator. They were long standing Bamfords dealers. Yes, it does pre-date the yellow ones in Bamfords livery. If you look closely at the diagonal support that runs from the top link down to the main beam, 'Bamfords Ltd Uttoxeter' is stencilled on. I am fairly sure that it was delivered new in 1968 - I can remember it being unloaded by Dad with our MF 135, JAO 18 D. This pre dated a J reg safety cabbed 135. We used to grow about 20 acres of Barley/Oats & Turnips, until 1991, which was the last time the plough was used at home. Interestingly, the plough was never attached to the MF 362 until last Sunday, because that tractor was supplied new, also by Hillary's of Aspatria ,in August 1991.

I'm fairly sure that plough competed in the vintage class at the Scottish championships in 2016

Think it is a kv hydrex body. There was 1 or 2 of them used at the world vintage match at York
The plough is not on loan from a southern owner is it? There was one down this way which has gone oooop north.

Not as far as I am aware Harry. The one in the picture is owned by a Guy who used to be a demonstrator. Apparently that very plough was brought over by Mr Kverneland on a trailer behind his Saab car, please correct me if I am wrong. Somewhat in awe of the Ransomes entourage, he swore that his company would one day enjoy their fame and reputation..... the rest is just history.
It all depends on personal preference but to me the work is brash compared with RND, YL or HI-ACE work normally seen in the vintage class. Each to his own but good to see them kept going.
