What is wrong with the free movement of people?

Agree but Brexit won't change that, a good industrial strategy would but thats not going to happen...

North Lincs like a lot of the UK has lots of labour, space and a reasonable infrastructure (roads, ports etc) but vanity projects like HS2 will suck out any cash that is left and any skilled folks will follow the money. No government gives a crap about Grimsby, Hull, Whithaven, Sunderland, Middlesbrough etc etc etc

But Brexit will probably make it worse and even Hull which voted to leave en masse now wants "special status" to protect its fish processing industry... not just cars folks lots of other stuff.

When I worked abroad, I was treated very well by the French. It helped that I was one of the client representatives for a £100M + job though.

No nicknames then ?

The Walloons in Belgium used to call me "Roast Beef" .. used to like the UK sense of humour though.

Quite bizaar to see a Flanders arguing with a Walloon though .. but being forced to learn French when your heritage is Dutch .. whilst the French only learn French tends to do things I guess.

The problem I see with freedom of movement is that large numbers of unskilled workers can move here for an indefinite period of time. This leads to wages stagnating instead of increasing over time as there is always a ready supply of labour. Another problem is that these workers will generate very little tax revenue as their pay is low while them and they're families are using local services such as schools, hospitals etc. Also in can't be ignored that the housing crisis has been exacerbated by high net migration rates, although I accept that there is high migration from outside the EU as well and isn't just down to freedom of movement.

It's a small island. Schools /hospitals struggling to cope. Congestion on roads. Supposed housing shortage. Will that do for now ?
