What should I do?(college)

Right, I'm currently swearing at myself for being an idiot, let me explain. A couple months ago when I was deciding what college to go to etc, I really wanted to do Farm mechanisation level 3 extended diploma however i was put off by the fact I would have to live away from home and have accommodation, so I've went to do instead level 3 extended diploma in agriculture instead at my local college, which was my second choice. Even though everyone told me the college was rubbish and I should go live in somewhere at a different place, I ignored them. So I find myself 2 weeks away from going to college and regretting it. So here's the question. Should I instead of doing the level 3 in agriculture (2 years) do the level 2 in agriculture(1 year) then go away and go level 3 farm mechanisation(2 years). So I'll have 4 Years in education but 2 level 3's or 3 years in education and have a level 2 and 3. I'm not making much sense really. If someone came looking for a job, would the the fact they have a level 2 and not a level 3 influence your decision or wouldn't it bother you?Or if one person had a level 2 and another a level 3 would you be more interested in the level 3 person? Lastly, I could do level 2 in agriculture and level 3 in farm mechanisation which would be 2 years instead of 3 due to the fact it's not an extended diploma. I haven't made much sense but I'm confused and annoyed at the same time because if I followed what I really wanted to do pa few months back I could've saved a year it two.

You must go away to the college you know you want to. My son is off back to college next week doing a level 3 he cant wait. He is away from home. If you think you have the ability to do a level 3 that is what you should do, I suspect you would not find level 2 enough of a challenge. The best thing you can do is phone the college you want to go to TODAY and speak with them I have no doubt they will do their best to accommodate you. Remember being a college is a business these days and they need to be full ideally with the best students (because they get the best results). So be polite and sound very keen and enthusiastic, If they don't have space phone others up. if you think the local college wont be up to the task before you even start I doubt you will enjoy being there which is the most important part of college life.

You have lots of choice but not much time so start phoning today. There is a large choice you just have to make them feel they want you.

I should have added the last thing you need to worry about is how long a course is. Enjoy it because once you start working there is probably no going back. I have always regretted not doing a follow up to the course I did. My brother In law managed 10 years at university.

Going away will be one of those things you will be glad you did. New friends, attitudes, you couldn't do something better for yourself in life.

As regards all the levels, well I'm not really up to helping thre but I will say it's what you do afterwards that will really line your cv and set your career.
Anyone can do college/university. It's what you do afterwards that counts.

Couldn't agree more about the anyone can do college/ university. My school told me I wasn't capable of doing a degree so I only applied for HNDs. They were wrong and I could have done a degree which I have always regretted a little (not a lot because I would never have met my wife if I had done a degree). That is why I always tell my children to do what they want to and not what others tell or expect them to.

My dad always said - get a good education, it is easy carried.

It didnt make a lot of sense at the time, but looking back he was correct. If an education is on offer grab it. Once you have the education, no one can take it off you again and you carry it around in your head (hence it is easy carried).

I did not go to university when I left school, but did go back 10 years later. It is not as easy then.

Aim as high as you can and as high as you believe you are capable of. If you can do a Level 3 course, then go for that. Generally employers want to see how high someone can go, not how wide they can go at a lower level i.e. one level 3 is better than two level 2s in most employers eyes.

Getting away from home will give you a different perspective on life. It will always give you an experince that you will not forget the rest of your life. You can always come home again after college. At this point in time you cannot say that later you can go away from home.

Go for it, enjoy it, learn from it and soak up all that experience you will not get at home.

Do the level 3. When I was going through the level 2 or 3 stuff with my college last year I was shocked how basic a lot of the level 2 stuff was, as was my boss. We put a bit of pressure on the college and I went straight on to level 3. Go away meet new people, new mates, new ladies, work hard, have fun & drink lots of beer.

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to phone up tomorrow and see if I can enrol and get accommodation, I haven't got long but hopefully I can do it, if not, then I'll have to wait until next year, my parents are also all for me moving away due to the fact they think it will me help me a lot, the experience away from them will prepare me for later life and come back a man, but yeah, I've left it very late but hopefully I can sort something out.

When you phone the college you want to attend be honest with them because your reasons for wanting the change are sound and genuine and I'm sure they will be far, far more receptive and helpful to the truth concerning your application than they would with a load of old waffle that they'll see through in a nano second. Good luck (y)
