What spray to kill stinging nettles?

I have some nettles in an overwintered stubble on some rented taty land. 4l glypho has nailed everything else, couch and all. The nettles laughed it off. It's kind land so likely won't get the tiller through it, so I could do with zapping the buggers in the stubble if possible.

Kyleo

Roundup + 2,4D.

Whatever you spray them with you need a good area of leaf.

EDIT

There is a sort of on going myth that MCPA seems to be the only thing worth using on grass.

I am afraid MCPA even in serious doses has never impressed me much when it comes to controlling docks or nettles any sense, there are better options out there.

No it doesn't. Even at 6L/ha it burns the tops off and they come back.:(

Dow man told me that Thistlex is actually more effective on nettles than Pastor (which has always been my weapon of choice). Thistlex seems to work very well, but all will need repeated treatment to regrowth if they have a good, established root system.

I don't think Thistlex is approved for knapsack or other handheld equipment. For small jobs the amateur SBK (triclopyr) is effective and needs no certification.

I caught some with Spear when I was spraying rushes. By the time I got back up the field, they were looking pretty sick! They turned black and floppy within hours and I find them useful to make sure where I had been. I tend to wander...;)

You will flop weeds over equally instantly with many materials, they become rapidly dewaxed and lose a lot of moisture very rapidly. This does not mean you have killed them.

Thistlex is much better on everything than Grazon pro,
Have managed to really nail brambles and gorse with Thistlex that we'd previously treated repeatedly with crappy grazon.

Thistlex is also quite alot cheaper with more of a bang as well.
3l is £70/80 for Thistlex
1l of grazon is near £40

Saying that....... still doesn't really sort nettles.

Unless they are a really problem, just scythe (or mow) them and let the stock eat them- sheep and cattle love them once wilted abit and I believe they are very nutritious.

Used to have alot of success with Garlon (also called Timbrel)......can't get it any more :shifty:
