lely use good quality steel now which does seem to stand up to the job, weight is not allways a +.
Downdswell ploughs can be heavy but crack up as bad as any plough

Lely. Ours is a 94 model and it works just as good as new. Just the slightly offset wheels that tend to bend inward on older machines but same with other makes. Mechanically they are very strong. The stabilo headstocks have been beefed up since ours also (the only weakpoint of the machine)

Krone may look strong but mechanically they are poor. The box section design is poor and the grease doesn't go on the crown wheels.

We have run fella and krone 6 rotor mounted, and a customer of ours has a claas. We now have a lely 10 rotor trailed, if the mounted ones are as good they'll be miles better than the rest.

Kuhn gets my vote. A Tarrup it replaced only lasted 2 seasons and was sold as a pile of scrap!!!. I have had a 6 Rotor Kuhn for over 10 Years and has never even needed a tine replacing

I don't know if I should laugh or cry about this thread... :p. The OP asks a simple? question; A or B and then people reply saying C, D or E..... Am I just being ignorant :(? I would have thought that the OP had figured out by himself that he did not want make C, D or E before he started the topic?

Sorry for going off topic by the way. I would say Claas holds their value better but Krone spares will be cheaper?

Er, well, yes.. But the OP does say 'it's between a Claas or Krone (I think)', so he doesn't seem 100% sure that it's such a straightforward choice..
Put away your hanky Niels, no-one's suggested an Acrobat.. yet..;)

The lely has by far the best spreading action because of the hooked tine

@grumpy centipedes do an ok job if the bevel gears have not self destructed but they are a tremendous pain in the backside to transport
