So the general consensus is that mail is arriving later generally? I too can see a time when a weekly delivery or collection will be the norm. Most abattoirs now paying by bacs and most urgent stuff sent by email these days. It looks like in time only legal documents will be delivered by post.

when they used to come on a bike we were last on the line so between 11 and 2 in the after noon
now on a van its between 8 and 9 in the morning so on the farm always earlier than it used to be

now live in the village and it depends which postie is on so 10 am or 12

most payments now by bacs so only have a hand full of cheques in a year

Didn't think many people still using cheques.

Give our postie his due I remember seeing him running up farm roads during bad weather because his van couldn't make it up road and royal mail wouldn't give them winter tyres.

Dairy farm not far from here had contractors in pumping slurry. They had run the pipe along the farm drive and as the post van drove down the lane he caught the sump on one of the couplings. His van was literally full of slurry by the time the pump was turned off. Poor sod looked like a drowned rat.

When I was a postie, my hours were 5am till 1pm. Royal Mail moved everyone on to a later start because 5-6 was a couple of pounds per hour better rate due to being "unsociable hours". It was to try to save money when they were on their backside. :)

As per other replies, depends who's on. Anywhere from 10am to 3pm.

Used to be 8.30 now between 11 - 12.
Postie is great. Always signs for stuff for me unless it looks official, then he will try to find me. Leaves packages hidden in the wood shed. The other day a courier had left something on my front door step. Postie saw it in the open when he delivered and hid it for me :)

Not seen postie for a week due to a little bit of snow on farm track. Obviously 400 mtrs each way is to far to walk.

its a policy in snow now, not sure what but heard our man say if anything happened it wouldnt have been worth it, people above. also the service ahs changed, all the part time farmers who are posties now cant get to the mart in time to buy cattle and stuff as is a later start and no longer task to finish.

bin men have it as bad, i bale for one and normally was blue bin and start at dinnertime, it was a task to finish but now 4.30 finish.

both services were before they messed them about.

post here when we get home
