never realised until last week that that propane bottles are galvanised. suppose it's obvious really as you rarely see a rusty one

Be careful if you want to cut and acetylene bottle open, they are not an empty steel tank. Do some research.

"Today, acetylene is shipped and stored in metal cylinders filled with agamassan, which is half-filled with dimethylformamide (DMF) or acetone. The acetylene is dissolved in the DMF or acetone. Such cylinders are safe to transport and use.

In Swedish, the porous filler is known as "AGA-massan", which would translate as "AGA mass", "AGA body", or "AGA compound". AGA was the company Dalén founded. The compound originally consisted of, among other things, asbestos, cement, and coal. The 1930 US patent also mentions kieselguhr (diatomaceous earth"

The acetone liquid can come out if you draw too much from the cylinder. We have a manifold system and had bother with it, what had happened was that sometimes only one cylinder had bern opened to run the manifold and therefore drawing too much. It partially blocked the mesh filters on the hoses. Was black in colour.
