What width corrie pipe for sheep trough?

I'd like to start replacing my wooden trough with plastic ones made of corrugated pipe. I don't know what width pipe to buy though

Will be feeding horned blackies with them (I know feeding blackies will scandalise some, but do try to be brave

I like the ones in the link below (nothing to do with me, too tight to buy when I can make my own

I've done that for cattle troughs used 12 inch , came 6 m lengths , tbh they're crap because they break in between the corrugated bits so instead of 6 troughs I've now got 12

I wonder would a "third foot" in the middle stop that happening Bob?

Possibly , it depends if your sheep wish to go for a walk in them, that could be an issue.
I did because previously I came across some yellow plastic gas pipe which is brilliant you can run over them with the tractor .
Sadly I don't have a source for them now

I bought a handful last year, made of 9" twin wall and about 6' long with a support at each end. Seems about right on dimensions if you want to make a copy. :)

Made some up about 4 years ago, 9" smooth lined non perforated pipe 6m length was about £30 cut in half length ways with a chainsaw was the easiest, you can follow the seam line on the plastic for a straight edge, then cut into 3m long troughs so 4 troughs for £30. At first I did starting making end wood blocks for them and used some 3x2 timber under neath for feet- to be honest they dont need it.

A couple of them have broken when cattle stood on them, and one went came of the worse when it went through a topper, other than that they have been good.

9" seems to be a winner. My ewes are usually harder on me than the trough at feeding time (usually the only time I wish they didn't have horns. Not got cattle at the present time so I am not that worried about the ewes breaking them, think I will put a third foot under them though, just to err on the side of caution.

I have just inherited some at the new place, but they are not the corri pipe, they are more like the old fashioned 9" gas main smooth pipe, but they are darned heavy for me to shift, they are about 8'long
