So drove 40mins to MVF yesterday , "do you have any ovivac / heptavac ?" yes loads in the fridge, but we cant let you have it because there isnt a qualified person to book it out !
WTF !
to say i was annoyed is an understatement with lambs needing a follow up dose shortly ,
The last time i went to Yeovil i was questioned for 10 mins on how many sheep i had , dosing etc etc for 2.5l of levamasole

Rant over!

Head office are cutting staff numbers in store as fast as they can, anyone leaves at store level they do not get replaced now!

Will most likely only be one qualified person now working in the store per day that can do the meds so if they are on lunch or in a meeting ( which seems to be very common these days as head office managers love them )

Always seems to be plenty of head office managers/ staff wondering about thou!

we have a Bridgeman store, aka mvf in its early days, decently staffed, and efficient.

no clothing, food, horsy stuff etc, just what farmers want/need, though l wouldn't object to a small stand of chocolate bars ........

the only problem, its linked in with the mvf computer system, and is driving the staff nuts.

we so very seldom go into a mvf proper store, its just a pain in the butt, staff, unless you are very lucky, know sod all

They probably think you have opened a Migrant medical centre, there seems to be a concern that illegal migrants are being treated with animal medication according to some of the local seasonal staff

I've had the same problem, the SQP was on holiday or something and they didn't have anyone to cover 🤷‍♂️

To be fair though on your second point that is what they are meant to do, not just dish it out willy nilly

Have to say in MVF defence, they are following the rules. An SQP is responsible for the sale of appropriate licensed product.

Please remember that its not many years ago that it was very likely that all Wormers, insecticides and vaccines for farm animal use was going to be VET ONLY.
thats fair enough , but mole valley closed all the small people we used to use with their buying power , simply not good enough to have people drive miles just to find someone on holiday , more sense to train up more staff so there is always cover

I always call now before going for wormers etc this is a common problem with ag merchants had the same happen to me. Some have nearly been closed down by bending the rules

Sounds they are going same way as mid shires 🤷

TFM should take all these stores over , they seem to be good on price and staff ok the limited times I've been into their stores , think they mainly Shropshire way though and Banbury.

Same here in Northumberland- there’s generally plenty of staff in Mole but whether there is an SQP is hit and miss. This can be very frustrating if the staff have a ‘computer sez no’ attitude and won’t even allow you to know what they’ve got in stock. Sometimes the staff are more pragmatic and will ring the SQP who can OK a sale.
It’s taken 3 visits to get standard meds (eg Heptavac). Call in- no SQP; they’re back in on Monday. Call in Monday, SQP is there but no meds in stock. Call back later in the week to actually get the meds.
Best to call ahead, but that’s not always convenient if you happen to be in town anyway on a particular day.

Just looking on MVF store map. All to the south of me, Worksop the closest.

Crikey how many stores they have in Somerset area.

I remember going into the coop and asked for a bottle of calcium for twin lamb disease in the sheep. They said we don't sell that, it's been discontinued. I said, no probs, give me a bottle of "cattle" calcium, I was told, we aren't supposed to, because you said you would use it for sheep and that is off label!!!!
