Whats happened to my lamb?

Right sadly 4 hoggs did not take to lambs very well, but in a confined space they have coped & done well.

So been turning them into a paddock during the day & small building at night, giving them a little concentrate to distract hoggs whilst lambs suck. So fed them inside this morning, went back 10 minutes later to turn them out, one lamb laid on its side, stood it up & it ran in reverse. Turned them out expecting it to die whist I had breakfast and it was not too bad, 150metres away from gate with the family group..

As they are 6/8 weeks old decided to cut losses & leave them outside but tonight running backwards again. So fed the lamb & brought it into cade pen for the night, will turn it out tomorrow. Its not happy in, but dare not leave it out with badgers, bit risky with crows in the day time.

I did heptavac about 5 days ago??????

Had a young lamb maybe a week old walking backwards and fitting a few years ago, I thought it was thiamine deficiency. Got a steroid and multivitamin injection from vets, whatever the deficiency was it was like an instant fix within minutes it perfect, never had an issue again before it was sold.

Did it come on very suddenly?

You may be right, I was thinking crinked net whist pincing or genetic fault like when lambs throw their heads back at birth.

lamb was a big single on a gimmer, hard pull, took a few days to come right and slow to move. After a week started to fit and doing a moonwalk. Was like a miracle fix so don’t think the steroid works like that.

Thank you very much, vet confirmed your diagnosis.

So £12 poorer but now have a lamb on the mend. Not as dramtic recovery as yours but getting stronger.

As above they had been inside for a few days, doing some work on there paddock, change of diet, caused the deficency.

Nice one, glad worked out, £12 well spent if it stops you wondering - what the hell's gone wrong now (y)
