As above really
What's the most amount of cake you'd be happy to feed in one go?

My feed rep thinks I'm probably there now but I'd like an extra kilo or two into them if possible

It's a maize based HDF cake so not particularly hot

My cows are just trying really hard to milk so I want to support them as best I can

Talking 40+ litres

We prefer to feed 3kg or less as a maximum per feed but in exceptional circumstances will go as high as 4kg. We are on a maize based 15% cake.

Why don’t you drop there parlour intake and put it through Out of parlour feeders if you got them up and running? I’m just thinking of spreading that cake load, think of of massive PH rumen hit you must be getting feeding it just twice a day. Other option is blend into the wagon, the yields & input your talking aren’t really suited to cow your grazing well, just as well be close to your yard in & out

In an ideal world yes, that was the plan atleast...

In reality getting someone to sort them just isn't happening, it will happen eventually but hasn't thus far
Made progress but still not running

Know FA about dairy but 15 kg sounds a lot , Is this the norm nowadays to feed this amount ?
Thought you usually make most of the spring grass this time of year 🤷

Top cows have just gone to 15kg a day so 7.5kg per feed
Thats a huge hit on the rumen, the best cake in the world will never be nice on the rumen fed like that. And my guess is your cake is far from being kind anyways. Molassed beet pulp might be expensive but sticking that in your cake could be much kinder, and for sure some kind of buffer, defo need to buffer the sh!t out of it.

Our nutritionist is reluctant to recommend above 9kg through the parlour ie 4.5 kg per feed. We fed 12 kg/head this year but only by doing 2 x 4 kg in parlour and 4 kg as a mid-morning feed sprinkled on the (grass) silage. (We don't have a waggon or OOPF). But wheat distillers, rapeseed extract, barley, wheatfeed, wheat are the first 5 ingredients listed so it's pretty hot. (that was in the winter, grazing now, so no mid-morning feed and parlour cake dropping a start drying off next month).
