Surely be a composite that’s been selectively bred abroad using mainly uk exported breeds then sold back at a premium? Some sort of low maintenance/input breed that you finish males entire?

Artificially created composites by get-rich-quick companies, targeted at gullible would-be sheep farmers, come and go. Meanwhile, those breeds and crosses established by dedicated sheepmen over generations seem to remain.

I just can't understand it. We have all had ample opportunity to adopt Stabilisers (in the cattle world) or the equivalent Highlanders (in the sheep world), but for some peculiar reason, we still favour the tried and tested breeds and crosses.

And it might come as a shock to you Shepherdlesses: some folk are genetically programmed to look after sheep and to produce something worthwhile. And maximising profit is often well down their list of objectives - particularly if they can rely on a bit of income from elsewhere to provide life's essentials.

It might come as a surprise to you that the number of mule flocks has dropped significantly. Plenty of self replacing flocks in various guises popping up around the SW.
