So how do they work then?and are they any good? What are the benefits? Do the cattle not just sulk, and kind of "sit down" in them?
The benefits are you don't get kicked in the knackers when you're putting a calf on a cow or shaving fat cattle...they don't go down in it especially if you have them squeezed a little

We've got an IAE Chieftain dual width, haven't put monster continentals or vast numbers through it, just dairy x and Galloways in dozens. Can't complain at all, we have the superscoop on the front and it works very well. With both sides pushed in and some lightweight blown rubber matting (about 1" thick) on each side it is fine for calves from maybe three+ months.

Only ever had one problem and, if memory serves me, it was the same bullock twice - when the yoke was closed and the scoop up, he lifted his front right foot and hooked it over the bottom 'side-arm' of the yoke; bit of a pain getting it back in but no great drama. No other animal has done this.

I think squeeze crushes are alright, have used my cousin's old manual and new hydraulic ones and they certainly help with large numbers to go through or anything a bit flighty. But I wouldn't get what you don't, or won't, need if your beasts are generally calm enough.

I bought a Bateman new style ambassador manual squeeze crush at the start of the year can't fault it at all, doesn't seem noisy, maybe they've sorted it out on the new style. You get a lot of kit for you money.
