Which mowers ?

Am I nuts thinking of putting a front & back on 140hp? Rear 3.1m Kuhn

It will go fine, you'll just have to go a bit slower in a heavy crop. You'll be able to speed up in lighter cuts though. Less turning and slower speed is easier on your neck anyway. Main concern is can you lift and carry them ok. Wider working width but slower forward speed always wins the race. (y)

We can run a 3m trailed nearly 50% faster on 140hp through a thick first cut than front and rear on 210hp. The single mower also turns quicker but has to do twice as many so probably spends 50% more time turning.
Conditioners will be partly to blame.

3m trailed about 6.5 acres an hour. Front and rear around 10
Faster hasn't meant more output?

Flat land fine. But if conditioners increase likely to only be 25-30%
Hills I would question how much you will gain.
I was going to add safety but your used to 3m on the back anyhow.
We have to choose direction of turning quite carefully to keep 4 wheels of a nh t7 210 on the ground.

Most contractors around us that would be pushing 15 plus acres an hour out of triples would be running 270-300hp on the front

But a farmer won't need this level of output will he- he won't be trying to cut thousands of acres in a season and please multiple customers. A farmer can tickle on and cut his own area in good time. I have known people run triples on less than 200hp before (even a 3185 Fastrac), they just won't be bombing along in heavy cuts, which is fine.

We’ve got the choice of 724’s & Krone triples or Big M from our contractor. Ask for the Big M if possible, far better cut that we put down to the HP its got.

We 2 claas's and a kuhn and if i was buying tommorow it would be claas. Only bought the kuhn because they make a 4.4m rear mounted mower

Our contractors runs claas mowers the cut is awful. They blame the grass being too long but it’s either driver or the mowers but safe to say we are looking at krones
Same here ,old contractor usedto run a set of Claas mowers and it didnt matter who drove it was always a mess compared to KV or both Krone & Kuhn so much so that we stopped the Claas from coming
