Which phone gets good signal?

Im on O2 and have a year to go on my contract... have a Samsung Galaxy (3 i think). Iv been using Samsungs for 11 years and think they are great... BUT since going onto smart phones every time i upgrade i notice the signal gets poorer.

Iv got by each time but im pretty frustrated with this one - it can lay on the table all day and say its got signal... then late at night i get a barrage of texts and missed calls!! Or i go with no texts till i phone someone and sure enough i get a text. It also says it has signal but when i make calls claims it has no network!! Can take 3 or 4 goes to send texts sometimes too :banghead::banghead::banghead:

GF has a Iphone 5 on Vodafone and has no issues... but checking Ofcom site for coverage Vodafone and O2 are about the same - EE and Three are awful here.

Looking to get a sim-free phone of another make and see if it helps. I just want something which will get a good signal for texts and phonecalls (internet is bad here so i always use my home wifi).

Any suggestions?

Blackberry phones here for exactly the signal reason. Tried different networks but was no use. Blackberry phones have a different antenna from the competition and can pick up a better signal and not drop out if you move by a few inches. My blackberry leap is much more reliable signal wise than anything else anyone comes here with. No point having a phone that cant get a decent signal in an emergency.

Tesco is crap.

Try turning your 3g off and see if it gets better. The 3g will always search for the best signal and if it cant get a good enough signal for 3g it will just lose all signal.

Sack off your smart phone an get a simple phone for £15. Hardly ever misses a call or drops signal

Have seriously considered that!! Theres a few decent 'cheapo' options out there. Would miss the apps though. Hardly use the laptop these days!

3g and other crap are switched off tosave battery life, plus if they are on id be aswell not having a mobile...

Will look at a Blackberry. Seemingly HTC are pretty good?

I've been having the same problem with o2 I have a Sony Xperia and had a galaxy s3 previously audit was the same. Dad has a iPhone 5s and it's the same. I've reported the problem to o2 and they say the network in our postcode is fine. Got dad to do the same through the my o2 app, it then sent a series of texts that should have followed one and other (words split between messages etc). They came through in the space of about 15 mins in the wrong order stating that the network for the postcode was showing no issues! That was truly the definition of irony. The thing is all networks are crap with us. But if you walk down the field in front of the yard about100 yards it's fine, 3g all the way. Walk 10 yards either side and no signal at all. In the yard you can have 2 or 3 bars of 2g but then somebody comes in saying I've been trying to get you all morning, why did you not send a text, I'd ask? Only to get the reply, I did send 2. These will come through later in the evening. Not a lot if use if you are expecting a delivery or an important call. Issues are the same even if 3g and data turned off. I can get a little peed off at times!

Got one of these myself and gets a signal where my wife's i-phone and work Lumia don't. Not cool but grabs a signal. It's half the size of a smartphone so fits in your pocket without noticing it's there and being an old fashioned flip phone no worries about breaking the screen or needing a fancy case to protect it.
Don't do Facebook and can check e-mails etc. on i-pad at lunchtime and nights so a phone that you can speak and receive texts on it is for me.

I alternate between a Nokia 820 and an iPhone 4S and don't really see any difference in reception at all. EE have seriously lost the plot this year and since we have had 4G enabled the signal is useless and very patchy indeed. I believe they have shut some overlapping T-Mobile and Orange masts down, leaving big holes in their service in rural areas.

I have always had far better reception and battery life from my little Nokia dumb phones. I still keep one 6303 classic with a Tesco/02 PAYG card for backup, although we can forget using the internet or email with this and the 6303i also has poor video and camera. But as a phone to talk to people it is hard to beat and far superior to any smartphone I've ever had. It has a lot going for it.
