Which Pre-em

Avadex still works in drier conditions but ultimately needs rain to work best. The vapour action is useful in cloddy seedbeds too. I'm seeing heavy dews in the mornings which will help & have no intention of delaying pre em applications despite the weather.

Was going to start pre em on friday, this will be on barley that was drilled on monday. We have the rain coming on Sat, will the pre em be as effective if applied before the rain?

More effective, BUT you run the risk of the herbicide being washed down and affecting the crop. Sands worse than clays.

Really need a few days post application before considerable rain for the chemical to bond to the soil surface. 3ml of rain will be fine, 15mm might cause crop damage.

Spraying half your intended dose before the rain, then half after the rain would hedge hour bets imho. I'm not an agronomist though!

Drilling today into dry seedbed . A decent drop of rain forecast on Saturday I’m thinking drill today roll twice and put pre ems on Sunday / Monday onto soaked seedbed?
Or put it on pre rain ?
I know which one makes sense to me

As long as seed isn’t too shallow or soil sandy or lots of stone I would get it on before rainfall everytime (unless very heavy or intense rainfall forecast).

What mixes are people going with?

Usually use Vigon/Defy, but heard that Crystal/DFF might work better in drier conditions.

Seems there’s no concensus regarding spraying before or after the rain either.

Weather looks set to be dry next week too.....will one days rain be enough to activate the herbicide?

Putting on the pre em today before possible rain on Saturday
Not putting it on risk missing a suitable rain
On heavier land
Often in a dryer autumn earlier drilled crops catch an early rain and have less bg than later planted
In wetter years wheat cannot get planted or struggles with the bg germinating before the pre em gets going cultivated soil is 10 time dryer than no tilled

I'm thinking Monday, heavy rain forecast for Saturday so with crop safety and run-off risk, it seems prudent to put it onto a moist seedbed on Monday.

Our light land has been drilled & rolled in the last couple of days but won't get Movon + Wicket until Monday

Heavy land drilled rolled & sprayed earlier this week

Hopefully rain on Saturday will save the worst of the rape
