which slurry store

if you were to put up a slurry store, what would you prefer? precast concrete or a storth/permastore steel one?

i always thought steel one so it could be extended if need be but concrete wood last alot longer.

not sure on cost difference.

Permastore very good when we were milking but as above need to be managed or crusting will be a headache - used it for a few years for irrigating spuds - collected rain water and no licence needed :)

I've looked into all the permutations, clay lined, membrane lined, short term, steel, concrete. Its going to be a concrete circular one. Too higher water table and sandy soil put paid to the "cheaper" options. Being the same price as concrete put paid to the steel ones.

What are you putting in it? Silly sounding question but is your slurry going to have a lot of fibre in it i.e. straw / silage, or is like gravy and been through a separator? If there's fibre in it then you'd need a pit that you can get into to clean out so a hole in the ground is your best or easiest option. All depends on how thick is your sh*t!

The problem with concrete is it is porous. Why else would you need polythene DPC under your house floor? Of course, this has to be allowed for in the design, but still the reinforcing will eventually corrode. We have renewed the concrete floor in properly erected glass fused to steel tanks after about twenty years, (which is, of course, the design life).
I have dealt with both Permastore, (which is the standard against which others are compared) and Storth. I would suggest that Storth now have the edge on quality. I have erected a good quality Permastore/Harvestore for one of your neighbours. No body in their right mind would attempt a second hand concrete tank.
