Why are they testing all these people ?

NHS staff and admissions I'm with it ,

Watching the news today , everyone is rocking up ... if you've got it you'll know pretty sharp .

If you haven't got it what's the point .

Just because you have a disease doesn't mean you are sick nor showing symptoms.

Most diseases including STD's can be transmitted by people who don't even know they have it - how long this goes on for in these cases I don't know.

It's important to begin tracking how the disease is being transmitted .. given the fact the disease isn't really going down IMHO it's about time some brain cells were put into checking transmission via food and where food is bought.

Same for when people begin to go back to work .. create "Safe" ways of working and check transmission to see if it's true .. rinse & repeat.

But hasn't most of the UK public been complaining about lack of testing?
? ... Yes and why not complain i refer you to my previous post.

I agree but what positives are there? Presume I get tested and I'm confirmed clear or I have had it and had no symptoms, then what?

Data i suppose, the more they have the better placed they are to understand the problem. Keeping those that are unaware that they have it locked down, relief for those that think they have it but are proved negative, Im sure theres more

There going try a data tracking style system on mobile, so if get sick people you know will get a text,

There are big problems this. It's going to be a downloadable app developed by a company involved questionable data use and collection during the referendum. So it's likely that people will not be that willing to have an app and be tracked by a company that may have ulterior motives. Singapore being a tech savvy nation is also using an app but only about 20% of the population has downloaded it and you really need >60%. Most of Europe looks like it is going to use the Google/Apple Covid tracking app so they can have cross border tractability, but it still remains the problem will people accept it..

Apparently well advanced are :
antigen test in 10 mins from saliva, test at home like a pregnancy test, UK / US partnership
antibody test , also fast turnaround, UK bio-company
Indications both 98% accurate

Trouble is when do you take the test. Supposing someone has had CV but is only 8 days from having it - there may not be sufficient antibodies in their system to show up on the test. It could give a false reading.

It's a way of potentially saving the lives of those close to us (e.g. vulnerable family members) so I for one would happily trade off any big data company wanting to know where I go and what I do. It's really not that interesting.

There is one test that can show current and past infection, how accurate it is I dont know but that would be a game changer

They said today you need 28 days after recovery to give plasma , presumably the same will go for the antigen test .

No, antigen testing should be possible from the onset of the disease, antibody testing isn't.

Ah, I didn't know there were two different terms! Thank you for highlighting this.

Antigen test
What it does:
This test identifies people who are currently infected with the coronavirus. It may be used as a quick test to detect active infections. Initially it will not be used to diagnose disease, but it may be used to screen people to identify those who need a more definitive test.

Antibody test
What it does: Antibody tests identify people who have previously been infected with the coronavirus. They do not show whether a person is currently infected. This is primarily a good way to track the spread of the coronavirus through a population.

There is one that does both, not sure how accurate it is though
Yes, it's probably possible to produce a rapid immunoassay test that does both. As you say the accuracy will be the problem. You could get all the vet labs involved and do it as an ELISA test instead, but it would slow the job up.

Turned on the radio early last week and vine was on, normally would turn it over but he had a chap on who makes these tests vine took it via a drop of blood, not sure if they are widely available yet
