Why Britain has stagnated

I was going to post this under Politics but that appears to now be a place where only Brexiteers and those that want to argue with them go.
If the mods think think this needs moving, I apologise and please do move it.

I think this deserves a wider audience and sums up a lot of the UK's problems very neatly.
Some of you will accuse me of bashing my old country but fortunately I have a thick skin.

Are not some of the authors supporters of Brexit. Robert Colville in his column in yesterdays Sunday Times was referencing this pamphlet and he is if I recall a staunch Tory Leaver. And this document goes beyond leaving the EU. Correct me if I am wrong.

I think maybe it is not that we have stagnated in a way, it’s just we don’t seem to have progressed. Asian countries have romped ahead wealth wise as they have had younger populations, however even some of those are now suffering from an aging population. An ageing population is a big drag on this country now and behind the scenes I think government have been paying lip service to immigration because it supplies workforce. Problem is the situation seems to be out of control and having a detrimental effect on our society.

Just the usual cherry picking of stats.
This stuff is written for people who will read and buy it, they already believe it.

Britain is no more stagnated than anywhere else.
Saying you didn't want to put in politics section for nonsense reasons doesn't help your cause.
Clearly it belongs in the "brexit is destroying britain" thread but would be lost in all the other similar anti-brexit sentimental whining.
Feel free to bash away, it's more a faint tapping than a bashing

There was an article that i read last week that pointed out that a large proportion of 20-30 year ollds admitted to being "unambitious". They had the
attitude that if they were contracted to work an 8 hour day - they would work those hours, and didn't want to answer work emails later on in the evening.
I think this country has lost a fair bit of "the get up and go" which we had 40 odd years ago.

Partly agree that an aging population may be part of the problem, but I have to say that some youngsters and some not so young think they are entitled to a high wage /standard of living, without being prepared to put their job first what ever that may be. So that can lead to stagnation .
I rest my case and will leave it at that.I am 73.

I don't think you can have even tried to read it if you are saying that.

Blair knackered the work ethic of the country when he dumbed down degrees saying everyone is pretty much entitled to one.
Consequently, instead of hard working people in their early 20's buying their first house before they're 25 as used to be the case, today's young people come out of uni with a degree in something miscellaneous, 40 grand of debt and no work ethic. They've made themselves unemployable.

Selling off the coal mines, steel works and oil rigs doesn't help either
