When your planted crop withers and dies , my spring barley has barely got out of the ground but the hemp nettle and other nasties are romping away .:scratchhead:

Its all Eve's fault for eating that apple, if you believe the Bible........

17 Then to Adam He said “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’:
“Cursed is the ground for your sake;
In toil you shall eat of it
All the days of your life.
18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you,
And you shall eat the herb of the field.
19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
Till you return to the ground,
For out of it you were taken;
For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return.”

Is that not referring to infidelity ?

No, its how God condemned Man to have to work for a living, and fight against Nature in order to grow his food, as a punishment for disobeying his orders (among other things women got pain in child birth, so a few weeds seems not too bad by comparison:eek:). When Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden prior to the Fall, they didn't have to work to grow food, there were no weeds, everything just produced food naturally.

Eating the apple (actually its never said to be an apple, just 'fruit') meant that they suddenly understood their own sexual nature, so that is where sexual desire and infidelity would arise from.

As you can guess, I spent a lot of time in Sunday School......

So, hang on...

The 'fruit' was a codeword for boffing, and the Big Man told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit, (what he meant was that they had to keep their hands off each other?) But because they were naked, and did not have to work for a living, they had a little bit of nookie, this made God grumpy, and so he gave us some stingers?

Pretty much. You can take it as literally eating a fruit, or you can take the story as an metaphor for illicit sex, but the punishment was for disobeying orders, rather than the action itself, regardless of what it was. Hence how Man was cast out of the Garden of Eden, and forced to toil in the fields for the rest of his days, stingers and all, rather than laze about eating all the food that would naturally grow of its own accord.

It's survival of the fittest isn't it? These weeds have evolved and adapted to survive.

@Kiwi Pete has some good ideas on it.

Remember a picture someone else put up. The field that had received chemicals and fertiliser etc was struggling. The grass verge next to road was thriving.
Think you pretty much said what I would have said, Grasshopper
Crop plants have "been evolved" to take advantage of ideal conditions - which farmers then are supposed to create
Weeds have never factored fertilisers and zero competion into their evolution, so they are several hundred years ahead of what most people intend growing, in terms of resilience and the ability to scavenge for resources.

Without adding to the racism, it would be like pinching 6 yobs off their Xbox, and 6 trained guerillas out of a warzone somewhere, and letting them fight to the death for a case of oranges... the softcocks have no chance of winning the battle, it isn't part of their plan for the future, whereas the guerillas would eat the yobs first, and have the oranges for dessert.
When everything is abundant and available, the contrast isn't so noticeable, when water runs out though these pioneer plants hardly even know!

Slightly depressing, but this is progress: the same seed will be drilled next year in hope
Weeds gave up on hope.
